Wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika Bhatia will not be able to play in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. She could not become completely fit after knee ligament surgery. He was bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 50 lakh in the mini auction held last year.
Yastika’s availability this season was already doubtful. He had knee ligament surgery in October 2025. The WPL management had made it clear to the franchises before the auction that if Yastika is bought and she is out of the tournament, the team will not be allowed to hire her replacement.
Despite this, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors bid on him. Finally Gujarat Giants included him in their team for Rs 50 lakh.
Gujarat Giants coach Michael Klinger posted a video on social media and wished Yastika well for her recovery. He said that the team is hoping to see him fully fit and playing for Gujarat Giants in the future.
The team also wrote in a social media post that Yastika could have shined in the orange jersey, but the circumstances were not in her favor. The franchise has wished him a speedy recovery.
Yastika remained with the team during the match Yastika Bhatia was present with the team in the first match of WPL 2026, which was played between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors in Navi Mumbai. However, she did not come on the field and was seen supporting Gujarat Giants by sitting with the team owners in the stands.
