Still far behind men’s players
Although the price of Indian players sold in WPL was Rs 22.65 crore, but their value is still very less as compared to men’s players. The cost of IPL’s most expensive Indian Rishabh Pant alone is more than these. He was sold for Rs 27 crore in the last auction. That means Pant alone is earning Rs 4.35 crore more than the world champion 15 players combined.
5 teams play in WPL and one team has a purse of only Rs 15 crore. 5 teams have a total purse of Rs 75 crore. On the other hand, in IPL the purse of one team is only Rs 120 crores. This means that even if teams want to, they cannot pay women players the same salary as men.
Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player in IPL history, he was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for Rs 27 crore.
Fourth season will start from January 9
The fourth season of WPL will be played from 9 January to 5 February. The entire tournament will be played at 2 venues in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara only. WPL started in 2023.
