The risk of many serious diseases is seen increasing continuously at the global level. Be it cancer, heart disease, diabetes or lung disease, all these have increased additional pressure on health services. Along with these diseases, the increasing infection of HIV is also a cause of serious concern for health experts, it leads to the death of millions of people every year.
Infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) weakens the body’s immunity so much that it becomes difficult for the patient to fight diseases. Due to HIV infection, there is a risk of AIDS i.e. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.
Till a few decades ago, AIDS was considered an incurable disease, however, scientific research and effective medicines have made its treatment easier. Apart from this, extensive campaigns are also being run at the global level to prevent HIV infection, as a result of which it has helped in controlling the speed of spread of this infection.
By the end of 2024, about 40.8 million (more than 4 crore) people worldwide were living with HIV. This year, 13 lakh new cases were also reported while 6.30 lakh people died due to this infection.
