Four years ago, during a conversation with scientists, when someone said that today every person has a smartphone in his pocket, Putin immediately clarified that he did not have any. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also reiterated this in an interview. He said that for a person holding such a high position, having a smartphone can become a big risk for both privacy and security.
Putin has said publicly many times that he is not knowledgeable about modern technology. He has also told the Russian agency that carrying mobile phones in the Kremlin premises is completely prohibited. When they need to contact someone, they only use the government line. Putin says that he uses the Internet very little because he does not consider it completely safe.
While talking to children in a program, he even described the Internet as a CIA project and said that half of the content is wrong or unhealthy. This is the reason why they stay away from mobile, internet and smart devices. Keeping such equipment around them is also not allowed.
The question arises that how would they stay updated with the news of the world if they did not have a phone. In fact, every important information is given to Putin through highly secure channels. Reports of intelligence agencies, official documents, TV briefings and regular security updates remain within his reach.
However, critics say that their distance from smartphones and the Internet gives them limited access to information and they may not be able to fully assess many of the world’s situations.
