whatsapp account ban

WhatsApp is banning the accounts of about 1 crore Indian users every month. To curb cyber fraud, Meta’s instant messaging platform company is banning the numbers used in fraudulent activities. WhatsApp gives information about the accounts on which action is taken in the compliance report issued every month. The government wants that the numbers banned from WhatsApp cannot be used in other apps. The government is in talks with WhatsApp for this so that cyber fraud can be curbed on a large scale.

1 crore accounts are getting banned every month

According to a recent ET report, WhatsApp releases the data of how many accounts have been banned or action taken every month in the Monthly Compliance Report. The government says that due to this there is difficulty in stopping cyber fraud. The government says that as soon as the number is banned on one platform, cyber criminals continue to commit fraud through other platforms, which is a matter of concern.

Decision taken for this reason

Telecom Department officials say that cyber criminals use these closed numbers in many instant messaging apps including Telegram. These criminals use Indian numbers as well as international numbers for fraud. Most of the frauds happen due to OTP enabled apps like WhatsApp, Telegram etc. Once an account is created, users can be targeted by cyber criminals. However, due to the new rules and policies of the Department of Telecommunications, the incidents of digital arrest and identity theft have also reduced.

The government is asking for the numbers of banned accounts from many other instant messaging apps including WhatsApp so that those numbers cannot be used again on any other platform. A former official says that the purpose of the monthly report was to bring transparency and accountability. The government is making the rules more stringent to stop fraud, so that people can get relief from it.

Aren’t you also making this mistake?

If you spread any kind of rumor or share fake content while using WhatsApp, your account can also be banned. This will be considered a violation of WhatsApp’s policy. In such a situation, you will have to be careful about the content you share while using WhatsApp or any other social media account.
