Whatsapp ban: META -owned instant messaging app Whatsapp suspended more than 98 lakh accounts in India in June 2025. This step was taken to prevent misuse on the platform and increase the user safety. According to media reports, more than 19 lakh of these accounts were already banned in a proactive manner i.e. before the complaint of a user came.

According to the monthly Compliance report of WhatsApp, complaints of 23,596 users were received in June. These complaints were about account support, ban appeal and technical problems related to products. After reviewing these complaints, the company also took direct action on 1,001 cases.
