According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is going to become active again soon, which may reach the hilly areas of the north between January 29-30. Due to this effect, the weather will change again in the states of North India including Delhi-NCR in the end of January and cold will return. This period of winter may continue till the first week of February.

According to the latest update of the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation continues over Northeast Assam at lower levels. Western disturbance will have a direct impact on Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Its effect can also be seen in Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh. At present, the weather is likely to remain dry in most areas of the country.
Mercury below zero in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh: The minimum temperature has gone below zero degrees in different areas of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. Whereas in Himachal and Uttarakhand the minimum temperature was recorded at one to five degrees Celsius, in many plains of North-West India it was recorded at five to 10 degrees Celsius.
Chances of cold wave in Himachal-Punjab
Heavy snowfall is possible in the mountain peaks of the Western Himalayas and the Shivalik Range. Due to drop in temperature, some parts of Himachal and Punjab may have to face the havoc of cold wave. Severe cold wave is still continuing in some parts of Himachal.
The mercury will drop in the northwest during the next 24 hours.
The minimum temperature in northwest India is expected to drop gradually by two degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours. Along with this, the minimum temperature in Central India may drop by two to three degrees Celsius during the next three days. The minimum temperature over eastern India is likely to drop gradually by two to three degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours.
Fog will wreak havoc here
According to the latest update of the Meteorological Department, dense fog from night to morning in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar till January 26, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 27. There is no sign of getting relief from it.
The country’s maximum temperature was 36.6 degrees in Kannur, Kerala: If we look at the maximum and minimum temperatures across the country, the maximum temperature recorded at Kannur airport in Kerala was 36.6 degrees Celsius. Whereas in the plains Amritsar the minimum temperature was 5.2 degrees Celsius.
