From Jammu to Uttarakhand and from Delhi to many cities of Uttar Pradesh, there is dense fog during night and morning. Due to dense fog, visibility is less than 50 meters at many places, due to which road, rail and air traffic is also being affected. Orange alert has been issued due to extremely dense fog in some areas in Himachal Pradesh. At the same time, there is severe cold in Punjab and Haryana and the mercury has gone below one degree below zero in Ooty, the famous hill station of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, some places in North and Central and Eastern India are not going to get respite from dense fog till December 31. Very dense fog is likely to prevail during night and morning hours in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab till December 31.

Dense fog is likely to prevail in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till December 29, in some areas of Jammu division till December 27 and in some areas of Bihar, Odisha and Northeast India till December 29. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and East Madhya Pradesh may witness dense fog till December 26.

Cold wave subsides in Kashmir, mercury at 3 degrees in Srinagar

Unlike Punjab and Haryana, the severity of cold has reduced somewhat in Kashmir. The minimum temperature was recorded above the freezing point in most areas of Kashmir Valley. Officials said that due to cloudy sky after the recent snowfall and rain, the cold has reduced in Kashmir and the night temperature has increased at most places.

Barring the Pahalgam tourist spot in south Kashmir and the famous skiing resort Gulmarg in the north, the minimum temperature remained above the freezing point at most places. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, compared to 2.7 degrees the previous night. Other places in the valley also recorded above normal minimum temperatures, ranging between 1.8 to 5.6 degrees Celsius.

Orange alert issued for fog in Himachal

According to IMD, there is a possibility of very dense fog in some areas around Bhakhra Dam in Himachal Pradesh for the next four days. Orange alert has been issued regarding this. Yellow alert has been issued due to dense fog at some places in Una, Hamirpur and Fatehpur districts. Apart from this, there is a possibility of dense fog in many areas of Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur districts. IMD has issued yellow alert for these districts also.

Gurdaspur shivers at 5.3 degrees

It is extremely cold in Punjab and Haryana. Gurdaspur in Punjab had the lowest minimum temperature of 5.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Faridkot also experienced severe cold, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 7 degrees Celsius, while in Ludhiana it was 9.4 degrees. Narnaul was the coldest place in Haryana, where the mercury dropped to 5.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius in Bhiwani, 7.2 degrees in Hisar and 8 degrees in Sirsa. The mercury in Chandigarh, the joint capital of both the states, was 10.2 degrees.
