Election Commissioner Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, held a meeting with Union Home Secretary, Secretary of Legislative Department, Secretary of Electronics and Information Technology and CEO of UIDAI and Technical Experts of Election Commission in Election House New Delhi. It was decided in the meeting that the work of linking the voter ID card to Aadhaar will be done according to the provisions of Article 326 of the Constitution. It was said that Technical experts of the Unique Identification Authority of India and Election Commission will soon discuss further in this regard.

There is a provision to link voter ID with Aadhaar in the Constitution
The Constitution also provides for linking the voter ID to Aadhaar. It is said that the Election Registration Officers can demand an Aadhaar number to establish an identity on a voluntary basis, according to the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which is called Election Act (Amendment) Act, 2021. This law allows the voter list to voluntarily connect with Aadhaar Database.

The meeting was called after opposition allegations
These days, there is a lot of uproar over the duplicate voter card (EPIC) numbers within and outside Parliament. Also, political parties have raised questions on the validity of the Election Commission through this. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also raised this issue. On Friday, the Election Commission (EC) said that it would solve the problem of decades -old duplicate voter ID card (EPIC) numbers in the next three months. After this, the Chief Election Commissioner called a meeting to discuss the voter ID card with Aadhaar.
