Team India batsman Virat Kohli scored his second century of the series during the second ODI against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. Kohli was dismissed soon after reaching the milestone, and he ended up hurting himself in frustration.
Kohli came to the crease in the fifth over following Rohit Sharma’s dismissal. The right-handed batsman opened his account with a six off Lungi Ngidi and continued with an aggressive approach against the South Africa attack. The no. 3 batsman completed his century off 90 balls with a single on the last ball of the 38th over.

Kohli scored 102 off 93 balls, but the dismissal left him visibly frustrated. As he walked back, he waved his bat to acknowledge the loud standing ovation from the Raipur crowd, even as his irritation over the mode of dismissal showed.
It was a tired-looking stroke under extra bounce that ended Kohli’s brilliant knock, but not before he delivered another memorable hundred in the series.

The drug of 100 is different – Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan heaped praise on Virat Kohli after his second consecutive century in the ODI series. Sehwag joked that while others count their hundreds, Kohli treats scoring them like part of his daily routine. Pathan added that Kohli also disrupts the opposition team’s plans.
“Virat Kohli’s intoxication of 100 is different. We have been living for so many centuries, that’s the routine that society has given us. Back-to-back 100’s for the King. 53rd ODI hundred. Virat is so possible. A brilliant century from Ruturaj Gaikwad as well making batting look very easy,” Sehwag wrote.
“On Sunday king plays for sure but on weekdays he plays with your plans. Brilliant 100 by Virat Kohli,” Pathan stated.
South Africa Fight Back After Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad Smash Tons
South Africa managed to pull the game back in the second ODI by taking wickets in quick succession after Kohli and Ruturaj had put India in a dominant position. The two batsmen added a massive 195-run stand for the third wicket, with Kohli striking a century and Gaikwad scoring 105 from 83 balls.
At the time of writing, India were 295 for 5 in 42 overs, with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja trying to carry the innings forward. Washington Sundar was the latest to depart, run out for just one.
With a 1-0 lead already in hand, India will aim to seal the series in Raipur, while South Africa face an uphill battle to keep the contest alive. The final ODI is scheduled to be played in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, December 6.
