There was heavy stone pelting and fighting between security personnel and students in BHU late night. More than 10 flower pots, vehicles and chairs kept at the intersection outside LD Guest House were broken. More than 100 were injured. Tamil Sangamam posters and two big posters of Vanakkam Kashi were torn down.

216 students are to be welcomed here on Wednesday. Bricks and stones were found scattered for about half a kilometer. The head of a Broacha Hostel science student who came in the middle of the fight got injured. He told that he accidentally came in the middle of stone pelting. During this time the guards also lathicharged him. 50 students, 40 security personnel and more than 10 police personnel were injured amid the chaos. Some students were seriously injured and were admitted to the trauma center.

Police from three police stations and 10 posts and four truck PACs also reached the spot and chased the students to the hostel. There was a tense situation in the campus for about three hours. The sequence of pushing and provocation continued between more than 300 students and about 200 security personnel.

It was told by the students that a girl student was hit by a vehicle near Rajaram Hostel. There was an argument with the student who came with the complaint, while the officials of the Proctorial Board told that before the ruckus, some students with their faces tied up were surrounding and beating another boy. Then the security personnel who reached there caught the students and handed them over to the Proctorial Board. After this many students came from the hostel and attacked the security personnel.

Demanding justice for the injured students, the students came out of the hostel and started protesting by sitting outside the Vice Chancellor’s residence. During this period the dispute escalated and suddenly stone pelting started. Angry students reached LD Guest House intersection, broke the decorative pots and kept chasing each other.

No complaints have been received yet. But CCTV footage and evidence are being collected.
