There are a total of 11.26 lakh foreign students in the US, out of which 3.31 lakh are Indians.
The US has seen a huge decline of 70% in the number of Indian students going for studies. The situation has created this situation due to the obstruction of visa slots and a sudden increase in visa slots due to policies associated with international students of Trump administration.
Sanjeev Rai of Hyderabad Overseas Consultant told NDTV- Usually students have completed their visa interviews by this time and are preparing to go to America. This year we are checking the portal daily to open the slots, but this is the worst situation in many years.
US authorities promised to release visa slots in different stage, but the situation is not yet clear, which has increased the fear of students being wasted.
At the same time, Ankit Jain of Window Overseas Education Consultancy said that despite booking slots, many students are not getting confirmation. He said- It seems that America is testing its system.
Seeking options for studies in other countries
Due to all these problems, many students are now looking for options for studies in other countries. A 23-year-old student said- I cannot wait any more. I am afraid of being ruined for a year. America’s path seems closed.
Arvind Manduva of the i20 Fever Consultancy warned that if the slots do not open in the next few days, the dreams of thousands of students would be broken. We are getting calls from students and their parents every day.
In addition, students applying in March, who had received interview slots, are now facing high rejections.
According to Ankit Jain of Overseas Education Consultancy, many students, who were usually easily got visas, are now rejected. His social media profiles are also clear. Most of the reasons for rejections are being reported as section 214B.
US government section 214 (b) became a disaster
Section 214 (b) There is a provision of the US Immigration Act, which applies when the applicant is unable to prove that he will return to his country after studies.
Ravi Lothumalla of Dallas, Texas’s US Admission Consultancy said that this process is not new. Rules and investigation were already present, but now they are being strictly implemented.
The US Consulate in Hyderabad has said that slots have resumed and students should check the appointment on the embassy website.
A spokesperson said- We are fully investigating to decide that applicants should not harm America or our interests and they should work according to visa conditions. We are asking students to apply early and wait for a long time.
Two months ago, foreign students interviews were banned
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio banned the new visa interview of foreign students two months ago. The purpose of his order was to prevent Jewish opposition and leftist ideas in the universities of the country.
Rubio had issued an order to American embassies worldwide, saying that they should not schedule new interviews for students visas, as the Trump government is going to further tighten the investigation of the social media profiles of students coming to America.
He further said- With immediate effect, the Consular section should not allow the new appointment for the student or exchange visa (F, M and J) Visa until further guidelines are issued.
Although pre -scheduled interviews may occur, new appointments should not be added to the list. This prohibition applies to F, M and J visa categories, which covers most international students and exchange visitors.
