India and America have signed a new 10-year defense (Defense Framework Agreement). This means that in the coming 10 years, both the countries will together strengthen their armies, defense industry and technical cooperation. America will share advanced technology with India.

The agreement took place on October 31 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), where both countries were attending the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM-Plus). Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed this agreement.

Just yesterday, America has given concession to India for six months from sanctions on Iran’s Chabahar port. Whereas earlier it had said that it would impose fine on the companies involved in running this port, giving money or any work related to it. This port is on lease from India for 10 years.

According to reports, there will be 4 major benefits from this agreement.

  • Military cooperation will increase – Armies of both the countries will conduct training and exercises together.
  • Joint production- That is, both the countries will together make weapons, defense equipment and new technology.
  • Technology sharing- America will share some of its advanced defense technology with India.
  • Sharing of information and intelligence – Agencies of both the countries will share security information with each other.

US Defense Minister said- Our partnership will be strong

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on X- I have signed a 10-year US-India defense agreement with Rajnath Singh. This will further strengthen our partnership. A new era of coordination, information sharing and technical cooperation is beginning between the two countries.

Both countries are talking about trade deal

This agreement has been reached at a time when officials of both the countries are negotiating a trade deal. America has imposed 50% extra tariff on India for buying Russian oil.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has clearly said that India will not sign any trade agreement in a hurry. We will not accept anyone’s condition which hinders our business.

He said trade is not just a game of tariffs. It is a matter of trust and long relationship. Nevertheless, Goyal said that the teams of both the countries are working together. A good and fair agreement is expected soon.
