The US Parliament on Wednesday approved a huge defense bill worth $901 billion. It includes important provisions related to the security of Ukraine and Europe. A total assistance of $800 million will be given to Ukraine over two years.
The Senate passed this bill by 77 votes against 20. The House of Representatives has already approved it. Now this bill has been sent to the President and the White House has indicated that President Donald Trump will sign it.
Increase in salary of soldiers
Under the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026, the largest annual military expenditure in US history has been authorized, amounting to $901 billion. The bill includes provisions related to four percent increase in the salary of soldiers, purchase of new military equipment and strengthening military capability against rival countries like China and Russia. This time’s NDAA appears to be adopting a somewhat different approach from President Trump’s recent national security strategy.
The number of American troops in Europe will not be less than 76,000
A provision of $175 million has been made to strengthen the defense preparedness of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The bill also stipulates that the number of US troops deployed in Europe will not be reduced to less than 76,000 and the US European Commander will retain the post of Supreme Commander of NATO.
Trump administration imposes travel ban on 20 more countries
Washington. President Donald Trump’s administration has imposed travel restrictions on 20 more countries. This also includes the Palestinian Authority. The move is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to further tighten standards for entry into the US for travel and immigration. The changes will be effective from January 1.
Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan and Syria have been included in the list of banned countries. At the same time, 15 more countries including Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Ivory Coast, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia and Zimbabwe were added to the countries facing partial restrictions.
