In fact, during the investigation of Atiq’s properties, the department had come to know that he had purchased all the land in the name of Surajpal. After this, the Benami Property Prohibition Unit of the Income Tax Department, Lucknow had seized these six properties located in Prayagraj. When the department thoroughly investigated BPL card holder Suraj Pal, it came to light that even before the year 2018, many properties had been purchased in his name. Despite owning many valuable properties, Suraj Pal never filed his returns, even though he had sold 11 of his properties by 2018. Atiq had purchased 100 bighas of land worth more than Rs 80 crore in Prayagraj and its surrounding areas in 10 years in the name of Surajpal. The department issued notices to Ashraf and Surajpal several times and summoned them, but Ashraf did not appear as he was in jail and Surajpal also did not pay any attention.
These properties were confiscated
The department had seized three properties located at Beniganj Daryabad in Prayagraj, similarly two plots of land in Gauspur Sadar and one plot of Bajaha Sadar. It was revealed that Rs 2.38 crore was paid to purchase them.
