The Lucknow bench of the High Court has taken a strict stand on the issue of rehabilitation of homeless and destitute people of the state in only 16 out of 75 districts. Dissatisfied with this, the court has sought information from the officers about the steps taken under the earlier orders.
The court has ordered officers to take appropriate action in the entire state in the matter. The division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi gave this order on the PIL of Jyoti Rajput. In the petition, the issue of suffering of homeless, destitute, mentally retarded people living near temples, hospitals, footpaths etc. in the districts of the state including the capital has been raised.
The petitioner has requested to issue instructions to provide shelter to such people along with proper treatment. The affidavit filed by the state government said that 649 destitute people have been identified in 16 districts and steps have been taken for their rehabilitation.
