The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a semiconductor plant of ₹ 3,706 crore in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The plant will be set up in partnership with HCL and Foxconn and will be made display driver chips for mobiles, laptops and vehicles. In the case, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this will be the sixth semiconductor plant in the country and its production capacity will be 20,000 wafers per month, from which 3.6 crore chips will be prepared every month.

Union Minister Vaishnav said that the Union Cabinet has approved India’s sixth semiconductor unit in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. He informed that 5 semiconductor units have been approved so far under the Bharat Semiconductor Mission and fast construction work is going on there. Production will start in one unit this year. This unit is a joint venture of HCL and Foxconn.

The statement issued by the central government said that five semiconductor units are already in advanced stages of construction. After the approval of this sixth unit, India has moved forward in its journey to develop strategically important semiconductor industry. Today the approved unit is a joint venture of HCL and Foxconn.
Along with this, the release has said that HCL has a long history of developing and building hardware. Foxconn is a global major company in electronics construction. They will jointly set up a plant near Jewar Airport at the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. The plant will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs and other devices with displays. The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month. The production capacity of this unit is 36 million units per month.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday inaugurated the new semiconductor design centers of Japanese company Rensas in Noida and Bangalore. The most important thing is that this company will make the world’s smallest 3 nanometers chip in India.
