A meeting took place between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan city of South Korea. Both the leaders shook hands with each other and then discussed the issues face to face. Trump said that their meeting will be very successful, about which he has no doubt. On Thursday (October 30, 2025), Trump announced to reduce the overall average tariff on goods coming from China from 57 percent to 47 percent.
Trump described the meeting with Jinping as excellent
Returning to America from Air Force One, Trump said that many excellent decisions were taken in this meeting, which included removing the control on rare earth minerals for one year. At the same time, China says that in exchange for this agreement, America will stop its investigation on its shipbuilding, logistics and other maritime industries for one year, which will provide temporary relief to the traders.
There was no talk about Russian oil
In this meeting, Trump seemed more enthusiastic while Jinping seemed cautious. Both countries confirmed consensus on resolving important economic and trade issues. Trump said that in this meeting there was no discussion about buying Russian oil from China. However, they did discuss ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump said, “Xi Jinping has been buying oil from Russia for a long time. It takes care of a large part of China and I can say that India has been very good on that front, but we did not discuss the oil issue much. We discussed working together to see if we can end that war.”
Jinping gave advice to Trump
America has criticized India for buying Russian oil and forced it to reduce purchases. However, it is clear from Trump’s statement that he has accepted that America does not have the ability to do this with China. Giving direct advice to Trump, Jinping said, “It is normal for the world’s two largest economies to have differences of opinion, but they should focus on becoming partners and maintaining stable China-US relations.”
Democrat leader called Trump’s visit useless
Trump’s critic and America’s minority leader Chuck Schumer called the meeting between Trump and Jinping useless. Trump got angry at this and started counting the achievements of this tour. Targeting the American leader, Trump said that his words are almost equivalent to treason.
