These cricketers played strong innings on the field of politics, Mohammad Azharuddin hit a ‘political sixer’

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin became MP in 2009 by winning the Lok Sabha elections from Moradabad on Congress Party ticket. Azharuddin will be inducted as a minister in the Telangana cabinet on 31 October 2025, which is a special achievement in his political career.

Former cricketer and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu won the Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar in 2004 on BJP ticket. Later Sidhu joined the Congress party and has also been a minister in the Punjab government. He has also been in Aam Aadmi Party.

Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir joined BJP in 2019 and became Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi. But in 2024, he announced his retirement from politics to focus more on cricket.

Kirti Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, was earlier an MP from BJP. But later Azad joined Trinamool Congress and currently Kirti is the MP of Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha of West Bengal.

Former cricketer Yusuf Pathan is a Lok Sabha MP after winning the election from Berhampur seat of West Bengal on TMC ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab. Harbhajan was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in 2022 from Aam Aadmi Party.
