Varun Chakraborty, who is called the mystery spinner, has created history. He has become the highest rated Indian cricketer in the ICC T20 bowlers’ rankings. In the latest rankings released by ICC, Chakraborty has got 818 rating points. He has left Jasprit Bumrah behind in terms of scoring the highest rating points. Let us tell you that Varun Chakraborty is currently the world number-1 bowler in T20.

Varun Chakraborty has taken two wickets each in all three matches so far in the recent T20 series against South Africa. Taking 6 wickets in 3 matches and bowling at a good economy rate has benefited him in the ranking. Chakraborty is the highest wicket-taker so far in the India-South Africa T20 series.

Jasprit Bumrah’s record broken

Till now, the Indian record for scoring the most rating points in T20 bowling rankings was in the name of Jasprit Bumrah. He had touched the figure of 783 rating points in the year 2017, but Varun Chakraborty has now gone beyond that. His rating points are currently 818. He has also become the first Indian to touch the mark of 800 rating points in T20 bowling rankings.

Chakraborty became the world number-1 T20 bowler in the month of September during the Asia Cup 2025 this year, after which he has increased his lead at the top. In the third T20 match against South Africa played in Dharamsala, he took two wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs.

Arshdeep-Kuldeep benefited

Varun Chakraborty is the only Indian in the top-10 of T20 bowling rankings. On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav have also made a jump in the ranking. Arshdeep Singh has now moved up to 16th position with a gain of four places, while Kuldeep Yadav has also gained one place, taking 23rd position. Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the third T20 against South Africa, has slipped 3 places to 28th position.
