The special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, has sentenced Karukka Vinod, accused of throwing petrol bombs outside the Raj Bhavan gate, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. This incident took place on October 25, 2023, when the accused had thrown two petrol bombs near Gate No. 1 of Raj Bhavan. This is the same gate through which the Governor and other dignitaries come in and out. The bombs exploded there, but no one was reported injured.

Mischievous elements tried to enter the Governor’s residence
Immediately after this incident, the policemen present at the spot caught the accused Vinod and recovered two more unexploded petrol bombs from him. Regarding this incident, it was said from Raj Bhavan that some mischievous elements were trying to enter the Governor’s residence. Later this case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
NI filed charge sheet in January 2024
The National Investigation Agency had filed a 680-page charge sheet against the accused in January 2024. During the trial, NIA’s special public prosecutor N. Bhaskaran told the court that Vinod deliberately took such steps to threaten the security of important leaders of the state and spread anarchy. He demanded strict punishment from the court.

Investigation and evidence proved the guilt of the accused
Special judge of the court in the case S. Malarvizhi said that investigation and evidence have proved that the accused has committed the crime. Therefore he is sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000. This decision was announced on 12 November.
