The Madras High Court has formed a special investigation team to investigate the stampede during the rally of actor-royalty Vijay in Karur. The Madras High Court gave this instruction while hearing a petition filed demanding a CBI inquiry into the accident. The High Court said that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (North) Asra Garg to investigate the incident. The Karur police have been instructed to hand over all the related documents to the SIT immediately.
However, the petition seeking a CBI inquiry into the Karur stampede accident was rejected by the High Court on Friday and directed the petitioner to go to Madurai Peeth. This petition was filed by BJP leader Uma Anandan on 27 September. In a stampede at the public meeting of actor-royalty Vijay, 41 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured.
