Tamil Nadu: Case registered against 112 including BJP state president, they were forcibly climbing the hill to light the lamp – Thiruparankundram Row: Police Book Tn BJP Chief, 112 Others

Police on Friday registered a case against 113 people, including Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran and senior party leader H Raja. All of them had participated in a demonstration organized on December 4 to light lamps on the top of Tirupanarankundra hill. The officers provided this information.

A case has been registered against all of them for disturbing public peace and other charges. Nagendran and Raja were among those detained by the police for a few hours last night, sources said. He was released around 11.20 pm on Thursday night.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court had ordered the lighting of the Karthigai lamp on the Tiruparankundram hill top. The Madurai bench had also canceled the prohibitory order ordered by the district administration in the area on December 4. Following the order, the petitioner, BJP state chief and other senior party leaders and Hindu Munnani workers went to Tiruparankundram on Thursday. However, the police stopped them saying that no one was allowed on the hill.

According to sources, when the protesters remained adamant that they would climb the hill, they were detained. They were taken in police vehicles and locked in private halls. BJP workers protested against this arrest and blocked the road. After this, more than 300 BJP workers were detained. All were released last night.

Subsequently, on Friday morning, Tiruparankundra police registered a case under seven sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), including disturbing public peace and causing damage to public property.
