Sunil Grover was born on 3 August 1977 in Mandi Dabwali town of Sirsa district of Haryana.
Sunil Grover did his schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir Dabwali, while further studies from Guru Nanak College.
Sunil Grover’s father JN Grover was a manager at State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur. Sunil has done Masters at theater from Punjab University, Chandigarh. At the same time, his younger brother Anil has also done a course in the theater.
Anil has appeared in the film Dunki.
Today, even though Sunil Grover laughs everyone with his comedy, there was a time when his dream was to become Astronaut. However, Sunil was always expert in copying, acting and making people laugh.
Let me tell you that when Sunil participated in a drama competition in class 12th, the Chief Guest present there jokingly said that he should not have participated because he was better than the rest of the children.
When Sunil was in the first year of the college, he came to know that comedian Jaspal Bhatti is taking auditions for a show. Sunil reached the audition directly without any expectation. When I went inside, Jaspal Bhatti, his wife and director were present. Sunil showed two -four performances and when he gave his picture, Jaspal wrote behind the picture – Clerk will call it for type role.

After this, Sunil got a chance and started showing shows with Jaspal Bhatti.
Sunil’s first TV entry show took place on the show ‘Full Tension’, in which he got a small role of a bandit for the New Year Special Episode.
When Sunil, who appeared in TV at the age of only 18, came to Mumbai, in the beginning he felt that success was just about to come.
Sunil had told ‘Humans of Bombay’ that he spent more time in partying the first year, because he was confident that things would be right soon. At that time, his earnings were just 500 rupees a month, that is, he did not earn even 20 rupees a day. At such a time, he used to run the rest of the expenses with money and savings from home.

Sunil got a chance to do a radio show, which was only for Delhi, but when the show was on air, it became so famous that it was run across the country. After this, he continued to work in radio, TV and films.
Sunil became famous as the voice of ‘Sudarshan’ aka ‘Sud’ in the show named ‘Hansi Ke Fuhare’.
At the beginning of his career, Sunil did ‘Professor Money Plant’, ‘Shhshsh … Koi Hai’, ‘Kaun Banega Champu’, ‘Are you the fifth failed Champu?’ And worked in shows like ‘Chala Lallan Hero Bane’.
Sunil also worked in the first 26 episodes of India’s first silent comedy show ‘Gutur Goon’.
Sunil, who started his career in 1995, came in a turning point when he played the role of ‘Gutthi’ in ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ in 2013. With this show, he started being identified from house to house.
However, in 2014, Sunil left ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ after some time. This was followed by his show ‘Mad in India’ on Star Plus, in which his character was similar to ‘Gutthi’, but the show did not run much. He then returned back to ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ and worked with Kapil. Then in January 2016, the show closed on Colors TV.
Later, when the show The Kapil Sharma started on Sony TV, Sunil joined it. In this show, he ‘Dr. Played characters like famous Gulati and ‘Rinku Bhabhi’, who became extremely popular among the audience and people liked him very much.

Then there was a dispute between Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma in March 2017. Which was very much discussed in the media. During this time, reports of institutes like Hindustan Times said that Kapil shouted at Sunil and also threw the shoe. Sunil and Kapil did not appear with each other for many years after this incident.
In an interview given to Bollywood Hutal in 2017, Kapil Sharma had said about the quarrel that yes, there was some problem at that time and I had to pay a big price for it, but the things that came in the media were quite exaggerated and false things were told. It was said that I first asked for food in the flight, got angry and threw a shoe at Sunil. All these things were spread by some digital media people of throwing shoes and angry.
After this incident, Kapil had also apologized to Sunil and expressed his feelings by writing a long post on Twitter and Facebook and said that he considers Sunil as brother.
At the same time, at that time Sunil had said that Kapil hurt him a lot and advised him to respect humans, not just animals. He also wrote that if someone is improving you, do not abuse him.
Later Kapil had said that he had not quarreled with Sunil, the real debate was done by Chandan Prabhakar. He was stressed before the flight and that is why he dragged anger on sandalwood.
In 2020, the two met at a wedding and shared the stage together. After this, Sunil congratulated Kapil on his birthday. Gradually, the relationship between the two improved and in the year 2024, Sunil returned to Kapil’s show after seven years. Currently, the two are working together in ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’.
Salman Khan’s role in reconciliation of Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma
Sunil and Kapil stopped working together after a quarrel in 2017. After which Salman Khan tried to reconcile both again.
In 2018, Salman became the producer of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. He wanted Sunil to return to the show again.
In December 2018, Sunil Grover confirmed that Salman talked to him about it. Sunil told PTI that he is working in Salman’s film ‘Bharat’ and TV show ‘Kanpur Wale Khuranaz’, so he does not have time to work in Kapil’s show.
In March 2019 too, a source of Asian Age was quoted as saying that Salman again tried to return to the show.
After this, Sunil and Kapil appeared together at Sohail Khan’s birthday party on 22 December 2019. Both of them photographed with Salman Khan, which Kapil shared on Instagram.
Sunil acted strongly in web series like ‘Tandava’ and ‘Sunflower’
When Sunil did not appear in Kapil’s show, during that time he worked in comedy shows like ‘Kanpur Wale Khuranaz’ and ‘Gangs of Filmistan’, which did not last long.
In 2021, Sunil appeared in the role of Gurpal Chauhan in the web series ‘Tandava’. It consisted of artists like Saif Ali Khan, Kumud Mishra, Mohammad Zeeshan Job. The same year he played Sonu Singh in the web series ‘Sunflower’. He lost about 8 kg for this role.
In March 2024, Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover came back with the show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ on Netflix.

In this show, instead of professional models, Gutthi i.e. Sunil Grover became a showstopper. Talking about Sunil’s personal life, his wife’s name is Aarti Grover and he has a son. According to Sunil, he narrates all his joke wife Aarti before performing anywhere. If she laughed, Sunil performs on those jokes and if she does not laugh, then he understands that he will not run in front of the joke audience.
Sunil’s wife Aarti is an interior designer by profession.
Sunil suffered a heart attack in 2022, after which he underwent four bypass surgery. The doctors gave him a month’s rest, but he returned to work in only 25 days.
According to the Times of India, Sunil’s net worth is around ₹ 21 crore and he owns a magnificent duplex house in Mumbai. According to reports from Economic Times and Koimoi, Sunil Grover’s fee for Season 3 of The Great Indian Kapil show is around Rs 25 lakh per episode. However Dainik Bhaskar does not confirm this information.
