The second semi-final of the Women’s ODI World Cup will be played today between host India and 7-time champion Australia. The match will start at 3:00 PM at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. The toss will take place at 2:30 pm.
Both the teams will face each other for the third time in the semi-finals of the Women’s ODI World Cup. Earlier, Australia had won the semi-final match in Delhi in 1997, but India registered its biggest win in the semi-final held in Derby in 2017, when India won by 36 runs on the basis of Harmanpreet’s unbeaten 171 runs. Now it has to be seen whether India will once again be able to defeat Australia and play the final. Both the teams also clashed in the league stage of this World Cup. Where Australia defeated India by 3 wickets.
Australia’s dominance in head to head Australia has dominated the record of ODI matches between the two teams. There were 60 matches played between the two, Australia won 49 and India won only 11 matches. Australia has also maintained its dominance in the World Cup, where Australia has won 11 matches including the 2005 final. India has been able to win only on three occasions. One match was canceled due to rain.
Mandhana second top scorer of the tournament Indian opener Smriti Mandhana is the team’s top and second highest run-scorer batsman of the tournament. India’s second top scorer Pratika Raval will not be able to participate in the tournament due to injury. He suffered an ankle injury while fielding against Bangladesh last week. Shefali Verma has been included in the team in place of Pratika. All-rounder Deepti Sharma is the top bowler of the team.
Doubt over Healy’s play Alyssa Healy, who was the player of the match after scoring a century against India in Visakhapatnam, could not play in Australia’s last two league matches due to calf strain. There is doubt over the Australian captain’s play in today’s match also. Healy is Australia’s top scorer in the tournament with 294 runs in four matches. Two of the four highest wicket taking bowlers in this World Cup are from Australia. Among these, Annabel Sutherland has taken 15 wickets and Alana King has taken 13 wickets.
If there is no result today then tomorrow is reserve day. There is a 25% chance of rain in Mumbai on Thursday and there is a possibility of rain with thunder during the match also. The semi-finals may be extended to 120 minutes from the scheduled time. A reserve day has also been kept for the next day. For the result of the match, both the teams should get a chance to bat for at least 20 overs.
If this is not possible on the scheduled day, play on the reserve day will start at the same time as the previous day. If there is no result after the reserve day, Australia will advance to the final. Because in the points table it was on top (first) compared to India (fourth).
Possible playing-11 of both the teams India: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodriguez, Deepti Sharma, Uma Chhetri/Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Shree Charani, Renuka Singh Thakur.
