Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital, BCCI gives third medical update

Good news has come about Shreyas Iyer. He was admitted to a hospital in Sydney after suffering an injury while catching in the India vs Australia third ODI. He had to undergo an operation to stop internal bleeding and was in the hospital since then. While releasing his third medical update on Saturday, BCCI said that Iyer has been discharged from the hospital.

BCCI said in its statement, “Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, which led to injury to his spleen and internal bleeding. The injury was immediately identified and after a minor operation, the internal bleeding was immediately stopped. For this, he has been given appropriate medical treatment.”

BCCI further said, “His condition is now stable and he is recovering well. The BCCI medical team along with experts from Sydney and India are happy with his recovery and he has been discharged from the hospital today.”

BCCI further wrote, “We express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, who ensured Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will remain in Sydney for further tests. He will come to India once the doctors declare him fit enough to board a plane.”

How did Shreyas Iyer get injured?

On the fourth ball of the 34th over of the Australian innings, Alex Carey tried to hit a shot in front but the ball went backwards in the air. Iyer was standing at backward short leg, he had to run behind. While running back, he took a brilliant catch by diving, but as soon as he fell on Jameer, he started groaning in pain. The physio came and took him out immediately. The scan revealed the seriousness of his injury.
