Shreyas Iyer Punjab Kings Captain: Punjab Kings have made Shreyas Iyer the captain of the team before IPL 2025. Punjab Kings announced this on Sunday night. Iyer was earlier a part of Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR had also won the title in the last season. Talking about Iyer, apart from being an experienced player, he is also a good captain. Along with Iyer, Punjab Kings have also given important responsibilities to Ricky Ponting. Ponting has been made the head coach of the team.
Punjab shared a video on X. Through this the team shared the information about making Iyer the captain. Iyer has thanked the team as well as the fans for becoming the captain. He said, “I am feeling very good.” Fans, thank you to the team owner and coach for showing confidence in me. We will give our best performance. The coach and management have done a good job in the auction. We have a good combination of players.
Punjab handed over big responsibility to Ponting –
Along with making Shreyas Iyer the captain, Punjab Kings has also given a big responsibility to Ricky Ponting. The team has made Ponting the head coach. Ponting joined Punjab Kings in December 2024. Earlier he was with Delhi Capitals. Ponting said about Iyer, Shreyas has a good thinking about the game. He has proved his captaincy. I have spent a good time with Iyer earlier in the IPL.

Iyer has played 115 matches in IPL so far. He has scored 3127 runs during this period. Iyer has scored 21 half-centuries in the tournament. His best score has been 96 runs. He had scored 351 runs in 14 matches last season. Whereas 401 runs were scored in IPL 2022.
