Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress state president DK Shivkumar on Saturday questioned the silence of BJP and JDS leaders for former MP and JDS leader Prajwal Revanna for life imprisonment. He said that it is necessary to respond to the leaders of these parties on such a serious matter. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Shivkumar said, ‘JDS and its ally BJP are capable of speaking on this issue, yet why are they silent? Are they afraid?

Congress is just talking about justice- Shivkumar
DK Shivkumar said- JDS state president HD Kumaraswamy, National President HD Deve Gowda, Youth President Nikhil Kumaraswamy, BJP State President BY Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition R.K. Ashok and Union Ministers should make a statement on this. He further said that if the Congress speaks, people will call it politics, while the Congress is only talking about justice and respects the law.
What is the whole matter?
Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and was a JDS candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A special court on Friday sentenced him to life imprisonment in the rape case of a woman. The case is in 2021, when a 48 -year -old woman, who worked as a domestic assistant in her farmhouse in Hollenarsipura (Hassan district), accused her of raping her. The woman alleges that Revanna raped her twice, once in the farmhouse and the second time at the residence in Bangalore. Revanna also recorded a video of these incidents in his mobile.
How did the matter be revealed?
The case was exposed when the alleged objectionable video related to Revanna was spread through Pen Drive in Hassan region before Lok Sabha elections 2024. After this, four separate cases were registered and the state government formed a special investigation team (SIT). Prajwal Revanna was arrested by the SIT on 31 May at Bangalore Airport when he returned from Germany. After the arrest, he was taken to the SIT office towards women officials. The JDS suspended him from the party after a case was registered against him.

What does BJP have to say?
Talking to reporters in Dharwad, BJP leader and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said, ‘The court has ruled keeping all the facts in mind. Everyone should accept the court’s decision. We had already said that if you have committed the crime, then you will get punishment according to the law. Now that the court has given the verdict, it is not final, the right to appeal further to the parties concerned. He also said that in Indian society, women are seen with respect, and justice has been done in the judicial process.
