Sheikh Hasina has been living in India since August 5, 2024.
Bangladesh has expressed displeasure over the media interview of former PM Sheikh Hasina. A few hours after the interview, he summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe in Dhaka.
Sheikh Hasina gave an email interview to PTI news agency on Wednesday. In this he made many allegations against the Yunus government.
Hasina said that the present Yunus government of Bangladesh is running on the reliance of fundamentalists. He said that Yunus’s anti-India policy is stupid and self-harming.
Hasina said that her return to her country is possible only when democracy is restored, the ban on Awami League is lifted and free and fair elections are conducted.
Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh on August 5 last year. Since then she has been living in India.
Mohammed Yunus was described as a weak leader
Hasina said that Mohammad Yunus is a weak, anarchic and extremist-dependent leader. Hasina admitted that on the previous coup, she said that we had lost control of the situation and it was unfortunate.
However, he also said that some so-called student leaders, who were actually political activists, also played a role in instigating the protest.
He also talked about India-Bangladesh relations and said that India has always been Bangladesh’s most important international partner. I hope that the strong relations between the two countries will not be affected by the policies of the current interim government.
Hasina called India her biggest friend
Assuring the people of India, Hasina said that the present interim government does not reflect the thinking of the people of Bangladesh. India was, is and will remain our country’s biggest friend.
Hasina accused the Yunus government of spoiling relations with India and promoting extremist forces. Yunus’s diplomatic moves are unwise and suicidal.
Hasina rejected reports that she had appealed to boycott the elections to be held in February next year.
He said- If Awami League is kept out of the elections then those elections will not be considered valid. Crores of people support us, hence the country needs a leadership which will run with the consent of the people.
Hasina said- file a case against me in the International Court
Speaking on the case going on in the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh, Hasina said that this is completely an act of political vendetta. He said that this is a ‘kangaroo tribunal’ which is being run by my opponents. They want to oust Awami League and me from politics.
Hasina said that she is ready to face the case at the international level. He said that I have said many times that if Yunus government is really honest, then file a case against me in the International Criminal Court (ICC). However, they will not do so because they know that an impartial court will acquit me.
He said that Yunus had received the support of some Western countries, but now they too were abandoning him because he included radicals in the government, discriminated against minorities and weakened the Constitution.
The movement against reservation had carried out a coup
There were massive student-led protests in Bangladesh last year. The mob had attacked the residence of the then Prime Minister, 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina, on August 5, 2024. Hasina had fled from Bangladesh to India before the mob arrived. She has been living in India since then.
With this, the 20 year old Awami League government in Bangladesh also fell. After this, an interim government was established under the leadership of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. Students across the country were protesting against Hasina regarding the quota system.
In fact, in Bangladesh, on June 5, 2024, the High Court had implemented 30% quota system in jobs. This reservation was being given to the families of freedom fighters. But Hasina government later abolished this reservation. After this the students started protesting demanding his resignation.
