Due to increase in literacy rate by one percent, 45 lakh women voters participated in the electoral process.

The SBI report points out a relationship between literacy in the country and increased participation in elections by women voters. According to the report, the number of women voters in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has increased by 1.8 crore compared to 2019. Of these, 45 lakh voters have participated in the electoral process due to increasing literacy rate. The report also tells what are the other factors apart from literacy rate, due to which women’s participation in the democratic process is increasing.

These factors also played an important role

According to the report, employment schemes like Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana also played an important role and led to the participation of about 36 lakh women voters in the electoral process. Cleanliness was also a big factor, influencing women to exercise their franchise. The SBI report claims that due to the cleanliness campaign and its impact, the number of women voters has increased by about 21 lakh. Apart from these, clean drinking water, electricity etc. have also had a positive impact on women voters. However, the number of women who were inspired to vote because of these is not very big.

House ownership changed the picture

According to the report, women’s ownership rights on houses have also been considered important in increasing participation of women voters in elections. Due to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, there has been an increase of about 20 lakh women voters in the 2024 general elections. It is noteworthy that 74 percent of the houses allotted under PM Awas Yojana are owned by women. This has had a direct impact on women empowerment and has inspired women to participate in the electoral process.

The impact of public welfare schemes is huge

The report states that women empowerment can be strengthened by focusing on education, employment and basic needs and at the same time their participation in the democratic process can be increased. These factors not only improve the quality of life but also strengthen democracy and shape the social and political landscape of the country.
