Donald Trump visited Saudi Arabia on May 20, 2017, on his first foreign visit as President.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke to Donald Trump on Thursday and congratulated him on becoming President again. According to Reuters report, after Trump assumed the presidency, Prince Salman was the first foreign leader to talk to him.
The Crown Prince told Trump that Saudi Arabia is ready to invest 600 billion dollars (52 lakh crores) in America in the next 4 years. Prince Salman said that if the circumstances remain favourable, this investment can increase further.
Earlier on Monday, US President Donald Trump had said that he can again make his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia, but it will have to pay a price.
Trump went to Saudi on his first foreign tour Actually, after becoming the President of America, there is a tradition of traveling to Canada, Mexico or European countries. For the first time, Trump broke this tradition in 2017. Trump revealed on Monday that he had chosen Saudi Arabia for his first foreign tour because of business deals worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Then Saudi Arabia had agreed to buy American goods worth 450 billion dollars, after which he visited there. I can visit there again but for that they have to buy American goods. If Saudi is ready for a business deal worth 450 or 500 billion dollars, then I am ready to go there again.
After Trump’s comments, Saudi Prince has announced to invest billions of dollars in America. However, it is not clear how this investment and trade will take place.
Trump has good relations with Saudi Arabia Trump had established better relations with Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia during his first term. Even after Trump left office, Saudi Arabia had invested $2 billion in a firm of Trump’s son-in-law and former aide Jared Kushner.
Many reports claimed that when relations between Saudi Arabia and America were affected after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, Kushner had helped in handling it.
Trump wants to improve relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia Trump had tried to improve relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel in his last term. Trump wants Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel. At the same time, Saudi Arabia says that Palestine should first become a separate country with East Jerusalem as its capital and the border between them should be as before 1967.
After becoming President for the second time, Trump has expressed hope that Saudi Arabia will accept the Abraham Accords. Under this agreement, relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia will improve and Saudi Arabia will sign a major defense agreement with America.
In his first term, Trump had improved relations between Israel and many Islamic countries. Bahrain, UAE, Morocco and Sudan had established relations with Israel during the Trump era.
