A big statement from the Central Government has come out by making Sanchar Sathi app. The government has not declared pre-installation of this app in the phone as necessary. The Telecom Ministry has issued a post on X informing about the removal of the requirement of pre-installation of this app.
“In order to provide the benefit of cyber security to all citizens, the government had made it mandatory to pre-install the Sanchar Sathi app in all smartphones. This app is completely safe and its sole purpose is to protect the citizens from the criminals of the cyber world… In view of the increasing popularity of Sanchar Sathi, the government has decided to remove the mandatory pre-installation for mobile manufacturers,” the ministry said in X Post.
Apple had expressed disagreement
Let us tell you that this step of the Central Government is also being linked to Apple’s decision. After receiving the order from the government on November 28, smartphone maker Apple had refused to comply with it. The company had said that this step could put the personal data of iPhone users at risk. Apple was quoted by Reuters as saying that the company will present its concerns to the government.
Government said- the objective was to increase public participation
According to the ministry, the app promotes “public participation” as citizens can report any suspicious online activity and keep themselves safe. The government has clarified that this app has no other purpose and users can uninstall it anytime if they wish.
1.4 crore downloads so far
According to the statement issued by the government on X, till now 1.4 crore people have downloaded this app and are sending information about about 2000 online fraud cases every day. “The number of users downloading the app has increased rapidly. The objective of making the app mandatory was to spread greater awareness so that even less tech-savvy people can use it easily. In the last one day alone, 6 lakh people have registered to download the app, which is 10 times more than the normal. This shows that people are trusting this app for their safety,” the statement said.
