In the initial interrogation of the police, Shariful had told that when he came to West Bengal from Bangladesh, he received a SIM card from the ID of another person. However, during a conversation with the police, the girl told that her mobile was lost a long time ago. Saif Ali Khan was attacked in the early hours of January 16. About 4 days after the attack, the Mumbai Police caught Shariful Islam. Shariful Islam entered India illegally from Bangladesh. He crossed the Dauki river of Meghalaya and came to India. After this, he spent a few weeks in West Bengal and then he came straight to Mumbai in search of work. Due to lack of documents for being an Indian, he did not get a good job in Mumbai, but in different pubs, he started doing cleanliness. He used to talk to his parents living in Bangladesh daily from Mumbai.
