The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a person in connection with the 36-year-old Rubaiya Saeed kidnapping case. Let us tell you that this case is related to Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the then Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. During that time, Rubaiya Saeed was kidnapped for the release of jailed militants of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Rubaiya Saeed is the chief of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and sister of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti.
Rubaiya Saeed was released 5 days after being kidnapped. At that time, the VP Singh government at the Center had accepted the demand of the terrorists and released five JKLF terrorists. Rubaiya Sayeed now lives in Tamil Nadu and is also a CBI witness in this case. CBI took over this case in the early 1990s.
Arrest made from Srinagar
The person arrested by CBI has been identified as Shafaat Ahmed Shunglu, son of Saif-ud-Din, a former member of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, who is said to be a resident of Howl area of ​​Srinagar in the old city. Let us tell you that accused Shunglu was currently living in Ishbar of Nishat area of ​​Srinagar, from where CBI has taken him into custody from Police Station Nishat.
Yasin Malik’s name among the main accused
Sources familiar with the matter said the arrests come as part of the Central Investigation Agency’s ongoing crackdown on the 1989 kidnapping case, in which several accused have been interrogated in recent years as the trial is going on in a designated court.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik, who was the commander in chief of the terrorist group at that time, is one of the main accused in this case and his trial is also going on. For information, let us tell you that Rubaiya Saeed has identified Yasin Malik as the kidnapper in front of the court.
