The Central Government has given a big statement regarding the Air India plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad in the month of June. The Civil Aviation Ministry has clarified in the Rajya Sabha that all possible causes of the accident are being investigated and no angle has been left out. According to the government, the initial investigation report was based only on the evidence available at that time.
On June 12, Air India flight number AI171 crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. The plane was headed to London Gatwick and had a total of 260 people on board. These included 241 passengers and 12 crew members. The accident occurred shortly after takeoff and only one passenger survived. The aircraft was of Boeing 787-8 model. The accident became one of the worst incidents in the country’s aviation history.
Questions raised on initial report
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is investigating this accident. The AAIB released its preliminary report on July 12. Regarding this report, questions were raised from some parties whether adequate investigation was done. The government rejected these allegations, saying that the preliminary report is based only on facts and a detailed investigation is necessary for final conclusions. The minister said that all possible reasons are being investigated and the investigation is still going on.

DGCA sets safety standards
The Central Government said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has implemented comprehensive Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) for the safe operation of aircraft. Under these rules, aircraft maintenance, repair, technical inspection and crew training are strictly monitored. After the accident, DGCA has also started reviewing many procedures so that such incidents can be prevented in future.
Compensation process expedited
The Civil Aviation Ministry informed that Air India has started paying Rs 25 lakh as interim relief amount to the families of the deceased. This amount has been given to the families of 237 deceased. In the remaining 11 cases, the process of verification of documents is going on. The minister said that out of 75 injured, 43 have been given final compensation. Interim relief has been granted to 24, while scrutiny of documents is ongoing in eight cases. Final compensation process has been initiated in all cases.
86 family members got compensation
The government also informed that Tata Trusts has given special assistance of Rs 1 crore to the families of those killed in the accident. So far, this amount has been given to 86 families, including the families of six crew members. The government says that the process has been expedited to ensure that all the family members get proper compensation. The final report will be made public after the investigation is completed.
