Passengers got down from the train, which was stopped by pulling the emergency chain after the rumor of fire, but they remained standing on the side track, unaware of the danger. Officials said Karnataka Express passed through there at 5:05 pm.

Officials rejected initial reports

Officials dismissed reports that some passengers of the Pushpak Express from Lucknow to Mumbai jumped off the train in a hurry. He was walking on the adjacent railway tracks and did not get a chance to see the oncoming train. Officials said several videos shared by passengers before the accident also indicate the same.

A railway official said that many initial reports had said that passengers did not have time to move to a safe place, but this is incorrect. He said that we are investigating the reasons for pulling the chain.

Life could have been saved if safety precautions were followed

The official said that when the passengers saw the Karnataka Express coming, they moved away from the tracks, while those who could not see or did not get enough time to move were hit by it. He stressed that following basic safety precautions could potentially have saved lives.

Investigation confirmed the death toll to be 12.

As the investigation continued, officials clarified that initially the death toll had reached 13, but it was later discovered that the head and torso, which were said to be of different persons, belonged to the same person, after which the death toll was brought to a standstill. The number was confirmed to be 12.
