A historical step has been taken towards ending casteism in Uttar Pradesh. After the Allahabad High Court’s decision of September 19, the Yogi Adityanath government has imposed a complete ban on caste -based conferences, rallies and public events. Now there will be no mention of caste in FIR, police records, vehicles and public places.
This decision has spread tremendous resentment among caste -based organizations. Some are calling it against social balance, while some are threatening to go to the Supreme Court.
High Court described caste discrimination as anti -constitution
In fact, Justice Vinod Diwakar of Allahabad High Court ruled during a hearing in a liquor smuggling case, where accused Praveen Chhetri objected to his caste (Bhil) mention in the FIR. The court said that caste is mentioned against the spirit of the Constitution and it spreads partition in the society. Other means of identity are available in the era of modern technology. On the direction of the court, Acting Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar issued a 10-point order on 21-22 September, which provides for a ban on caste-based rallies, action on caste content on social media under the IT Act, fines under the Motor Vehicles Act for putting ethnic stickers on vehicles and removing ethnic slogans from the notice board of police stations. However, matters like SC/ST Act will be exempted.
Resentment in ethnic organizations
This decision of the government has stirred up caste -based organizations. Many leaders called it a political conspiracy and questioned the reservation. State President of Karni Sena Sandeep Singh called it a decision to suppress the voice of the society, saying that we are dedicated to the nation. He further said that the government should first abolish SC-ST reservation and give reservation on economic basis, implement this decision.
National President of All India Brahmin Mahasabha Rajendra Tripathi said that the court order is respected. But why reservation on caste basis? It should also be banned. He said that who is spreading ethnic hatred, political parties and leaders and governments.
On the other hand, Parashuram Army State President Pandit Vinay Tripathi has talked about appealing against this decision in the Supreme Court. While the President of the Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad, Gopal Rai, while accepting this order, said that we are moving forward as an organization, not caste.
Syed Mohammad Ibrahim, the national president of Shah Albi Mahasabha Pasmanda Samaj, has expressed displeasure with this decision. He said that now who will raise the voice of our society. This system is not right.
Increased challenge for BJP
Just as caste organizations are pressurizing it by ignoring it, they can become a big challenge for the BJP government in the coming time. Because all the political parties decide their election strategy according to the caste equations.
