President Draupadi Murmu reached Botswana on the last leg of her Africa tour, where she was given a grand welcome with a 21-gun salute. This is the first state visit of an Indian President. During the visit, several agreements will be signed between the two countries and the agreement to send eight leopards from the Kalahari Desert to India will also be finalized.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday reached Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, in the last leg of her two-nation visit to Africa. This is the first state visit of an Indian President to this country. President Murmu was given a grand welcome with a 21-gun salute and a guard of honor at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in the capital Gaborone. Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko himself welcomed him. This visit of President Murmu is part of his tour to two African countries Angola and Botswana. He first visited Angola, where he discussed further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Murmu’s visit is being undertaken with the aim of strengthening India-Botswana relations and finalizing the agreement to bring eight leopards from the Kalahari Desert to India. These cheetahs have been brought to Mokolodi Nature Reserve, 10 km from Gaborone, where President Murmu and Boko will witness a symbolic ceremony of releasing these cheetahs into the quarantine area. This initiative is part of ‘Project Cheetah’ and wildlife conservation collaboration.
