Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not address the general debate in the annual high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly later this month. The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly will begin on 9 September. The high-level general debate will run from 23 to 29 September, with the Brazil traditionally the first speaker of the session. After that America’s number will come. US President Donald Trump will address world leaders from the prestigious UNGA platform on 23 September, which will be his first address to the United Nations session in his second term at the White House.

Meanwhile, according to the revised provisional list of speakers for the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the General Assembly released on Friday, India will represent India. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will address the session on 27 September. In the last list of speakers released in July, PM Modi was to address a general debate on 26 September. The heads of the Government of Israel, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh are going to address the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly on 26 September.

High level session begins every year in September

The high-level session, considered the busiest diplomatic session of the year at the United Nations Headquarters, begins in September every year. This year the session is being held between Israel-Hamas War and Ukraine conflict. The theme of the 80th session is ‘Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights’.
