Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Saturday. Before the meeting, PM Modi warmly welcomed Prabowo and the two leaders shook hands.

Indonesia was the chief guest country on India’s first Republic Day. It is a matter of great pride for us that as we celebrate 75 years of the Republic, Indonesia is once again part of this historic occasion. I welcome President Prabowo Subianto to India.

Posting on Twitter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the discussions between the two leaders will further strengthen relations between India and Indonesia. Jaiswal described it as a step to advance relations with an important partner of India’s ‘Act East’ policy.

Bilateral talks also took place between the two countries. After this a joint statement was given by both the leaders.

Agreement between India and Indonesia

  • Will work together on defense manufacturing and supply chain to increase defense cooperation.
  • Both countries will cooperate in maritime security, cyber security and combating terrorism.
  • Agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as Fintech, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Digital Public Infrastructure.
  • India will share information related to health and food safety with Indonesia.
  • Disaster management agencies of both the countries will conduct joint exercises.
  • India will cooperate in the conservation of Prambanan Hindu Temple in Indonesia.

Guard of Honor welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

President Prabowo reached Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday morning, where he was welcomed with a guard of honour. Prabowo met President Draupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi here. In this meeting, there was talk on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and increasing defense and trade cooperation.

President Prabowo committed to enhancing closer cooperation and partnership with India. Expressing his happiness of being the chief guest on Republic Day, Prabowo said that he felt doubly honoured.

Prabowo will be on a state visit on January 25 and 26.
