Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Sri Lanka on Friday evening after a two -day visit to Thailand. He received a great reception at the Bhandarnayake Airport in Colombo. Five big ministers of Sri Lanka- External Affairs Minister Vijita Herath, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatisa, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrashekhar and two others received her. This is his first visit to Sri Lanka after 2019 and fourth since 2015. Today he will get a guard of honor at Independence Square, Colombo. Then he will meet President Anura Kumara Disanayake.
Defense agreement may be
In this tour, there may be a defense agreement between India and Sri Lanka for the first time. This agreement is necessary to reduce China’s influence in the sea. Both countries will also talk on issues like energy, digital sector, trade and contact. Modi and Disanayake will have a face-to-face and delegation level meeting. In this, 10 big agreements can be started, Samphor Solar Energy Project can start and there will also be talk on digital cooperation.

Earlier, Modi wrote on ‘X’, “I have reached Colombo. Thank you who welcome. Sri Lanka’s programs are awaited.” He was strongly welcomed by people of Indian origin at the Taj Samudra Hotel. This tour is happening when Sri Lanka is recovering from the 2022 economic crisis. At that time, India had helped $ 4.5 billion. This is the first foreign leader visit after Disinayake became President.
There will be talk on cooperation in defense, energy and digital fields
In the conversation on Saturday, cooperation in defense, energy and digital sector will increase. This journey may be a new beginning for Sri Lanka. The old relationship between India and Sri Lanka will be stronger, which will be beneficial for both countries.
