Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry raised the raga of Indus Water Treaty

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday, the arbitration court’s decision proves that the Indus Water Treaty is still in existence and India should follow it properly. Pakistan’s External Affairs Ministry issued a statement saying, “The Arbitration Court has upheld Pakistan’s side on the Indus Water Treaty in the June 27 judgment. We urge India to immediately start the normal operation of this treaty and fulfill its responsibilities under this treaty with perfection and truth.

At the same time, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar wrote on social media, Pakistan welcomes the supplementary decision of the arbitration court. This decision confirms that the Indus Water Treaty is completely valid. India cannot unilaterally postpone it. Nations are assessed by their adherence to international agreements. This treaty should be applied with its complete spirit.

India has stopped the arbitration court illegal

India had criticized this supplementary decision last Friday, saying that it does not recognize the authority of this court. India had said two-tuk that the Central Region of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is completely fruitless to supplement the arbitration court associated with hearing in relation to Kishanganga and Ratle Hydropower Projects, as the intermediate court constituted under the Indus Water Treaty-1960 is illegal. India never recognized it. There is no question of accepting any supplementary award or decision.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, India’s attitude has always been that the formation of the alleged mediated body itself is a serious violation of the Indus Water Treaty. As a result, any of its action, award or decision is also illegal and meaningless in itself. India says that it is not obliged to fulfill any obligation under it until the water treaty with Pakistan is postponed. According to the statement, India with sovereign rights does not empower any arbitration court and an illegally constituted body to investigate the validity of any action.

Indus Water Treaty and Disputes

In 1960, there was a Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan, which was formed in the World Bank’s mediation. Under this, India and Pakistan were given rights on different rivers. Pakistan has repeatedly objected to the Kishanganga and Ratle projects and took the dispute to the Court of Arbitration. India says that this court has been made illegally bypassing the basic processes of the treaty, and hence India is not involved in it. Significantly, India took several steps against Pakistan, a day after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, including postponing the treaty.
