He said that on Tuesday, 21 passengers were killed when the rebels attacked the Zafar Express train. Four soldiers of the paramilitary frontier core were also killed in the attack. However, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhary had said that 70-80 rebels were involved in the attack.

Zafar Express was taken hostage in a tunnel by BLA fighters. There were 500 passengers in the train. The BLA had threatened to kill the hostages on military action, claiming to be 214 passengers hostage. The BLA had set up suicide squad fighters among the hostages who wore suicide jackets. This caused the security forces to face difficulties in the campaign.
