Inquilab Manch made another big claim and said that if the accused who attacked Hadi have fled to India, then the Bangladesh government should immediately talk to the Indian authorities and ensure their return. After this statement, political discussions regarding India-Bangladesh relations have also intensified. The organization says that this matter is not only about law and order but is related to national security.
Violence erupted after Hadi’s death
The situation deteriorated rapidly as soon as Hadi’s death was confirmed from Singapore. A large number of people came out on the streets in Dhaka and incidents of violence were reported at many places. At least two newspaper offices were set on fire, while tension remained between the police and protesters in many areas. To keep the situation under control, security forces have been put on high alert and additional police forces have been deployed in the capital.

On December 12, Sharif Osman Hadi was attacked in Dhaka’s Paltan area. He was returning in a rickshaw after Friday prayers, when bike-borne assailants shot him in the head. He died on the night of 18 December after battling for his life for six days in Singapore General Hospital.

Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has expressed deep grief over Hadi’s death. The government has declared a day of national mourning and assured a fair investigation into the murder. While assuring that the culprits will be punished, Yunus has also appealed to the citizens to maintain peace.

Sharif Osman Hadi was one of the key leaders of the student-led uprising of July 2024. After this movement, Sheikh Hasina’s government was ousted from power. Hadi was preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 seat. He was known for anti-India and anti-Sheikh Hasina statements.
