There has been a major allegation of plagiarism on India’s Oscar contender film ‘Homebound’. Author and journalist Pooja Changoiwala has filed a case against Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Netflix India for plagiarizing from her 2021 book ‘Homebound’.
What is the whole matter?
Pooja says that the title of the film is the same as her book. Even the scenes, dialogues, story structure and sequence of events from the book were copied. The story of both is based on the migration of workers during Covid-19. He sent a legal notice on October 15, but the producers ignored it.
What is Pooja asking for in the court?
Pooja is preparing to file a case in the Bombay High Court. They are demanding a ban on the distribution of the film, removal of copied content, change of title and compensation. He says – The script of the film was made in 2022, which is a year after his book, this cannot be a coincidence.
Dharma’s answer
Dharma Productions said that the matter is being resolved through legal channels. The film stars Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor. This film of director Neeraj Ghaywan has been shortlisted in the top 15 of Oscar.
