Actually, any navigation satellite system is called GNSS i.e. Global Navigation Satellite System in technical language. It is a network of many satellites that continuously send signals to Earth. The receivers present in our phone or car catch these signals and tell our exact location. A signal of at least four satellites is necessary for this work.

The world’s oldest and most popular system is GPS developed by the US. It has more than 24 satellites that roam at an altitude of about 20,200 kilometers from the earth. Most of the navigation used in smartphones and vehicles is based on this.

Russia’s Glonass system is also quite old and has been working since the 1980s. It also has 24 satellites and in some areas it proves better than GPS.

China’s Beidou system previously used to work only at the regional level but now it covers the whole world and has more than 35 satellites.

The Galileo System of the European Union is especially known for its high-ecuracy. It has more than 28 satellites and is specially designed for civil use.

India is also not behind in this race. ISRO has prepared its own navigation system under the name Navic. It consists of 7 satellites and it gives highly accurate location data in India and its surrounding areas. It was launched in 2013 and is very important for India in terms of security.

Japan has a Qzss system designed for the Asia-Pacific region. It works closely with GPS and is especially useful in areas where GPS signal weakens.

That is, it is clear that the whole world does not run only on the GPS of America, but a total of six countries and groups have created their navigation system on the strength of their technology. This is not only important for their safety but is also very important for technical freedom and strategic edge.
