New York City’s Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani gave a controversial statement against PM Modi in a Gurudwara in New York on Friday. He said that Modi and the Indian government adopt a policy of violence against minorities.
Mamdani said that the mayor has made living in the city extremely expensive and at the same time has grown closer to PM Modi and the Indian government, which adopts a policy of violence against our community.
Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has expressed strong objection to this statement. He said that it is not our business who the people of New York elect as mayor, but what Zoharan said in the Gurudwara is disturbing.

Trump accused him of being a radical
This is not the first time that Mamdani has been involved in such controversy. A few days ago, President Donald Trump had accused Mamdani of being close to an Islamic fundamentalist.
In fact, on October 18, Mamdani was seen laughing and posing for photographs with Imam Siraj Wahaj of Brooklyn. Wahaj is accused of conspiring to carry out the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and inciting Muslims for jihad.

Mamdani, the Democratic contender for the post of Mayor, had gone to a mosque to campaign. There he had a photograph taken with Imam Wahaj.
Zohran Mamdani is of Indian origin
Zohran Mamdani is the son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair. Mamdani was born in Uganda, but grew up in the United States. After completing college, Zoharan got American citizenship in the year 2018. He learned politics by working for Democratic candidates in Queens and Brooklyn.
Two years later, in 2020, he won the New York State Assembly elections for the first time from Astoria, Queens. They represent Astoria and surrounding areas of Queens.
As a democratic socialist, he has started a pilot program. Under this program, some buses of the city have been made free for one year. He has also proposed a law. Under this law, non-profit organizations would be prevented from supporting Israeli settlements.
Mamdani’s chance of victory is 96%
According to betting website Polymarket, the chances of Zohran Mamdani becoming mayor are 96%. His biggest competition is Andrew Cuomo, whose chances of winning are close to 4%. Mamdani defeated Cuomo in the first round in June. From then on his strength increased.
People are liking him because he has promised to reduce fares, make bus service free, open cheap shops and impose higher taxes on the rich. The youth, poor and minority groups are supporting him. Big leaders like Bernie Sanders are also supporting him.
