Whatsapp Strict Account Settings: Meta-owned WhatsApp is now preparing to take the security of users to the next level. According to reports, the company is testing a new feature Strict Account Settings which is specially designed for those users who are at risk of hacking or targeted cyber attacks.
New security feature seen in iOS Beta
According to the well-known site WABetaInfo, this new option named Strict Account Settings has been seen in the latest iOS Beta (TestFlight) version of WhatsApp. This feature will be found in the Privacy > Advanced section where users can activate a set of “Extreme Protections”.
When you turn on this mode, WhatsApp will automatically apply several security limitations such as blocking media and attachments from unknown numbers, restricting who calls or messages, and preventing unauthorized setting changes. However, the company has also warned that when this mode is activated, call and message quality may reduce slightly.
Advanced privacy settings will be applied automatically
WABetaInfo said that once you turn on Strict Mode, WhatsApp will automatically activate many other privacy protections like silencing unknown callers, allowing group invites only to saved contacts, turning off link previews, notifying the user when the encryption code changes, turning on two-step verification by default and hiding personal information from unknown numbers.
Most of these features are already available separately in the app, but now this new mode will implement them automatically in one click. This feature will be especially useful for those who are more vulnerable to digital attacks such as journalists, activists or public figures.
When will this feature come?
At present WhatsApp has not announced the release date of this feature. Since it is currently in the beta testing phase, it may take some time to reach iOS and Android users.
Strong steps towards online security
This new Strict Account Settings feature of WhatsApp will provide additional security to users in the era of increasing phishing attacks, account hacking and online exploitation. This step of the company proves that WhatsApp is no longer just a chatting app but has become an AI-enabled secure communication platform that gives priority to the privacy of users.
