Rohit Arya, who held 19 people including 17 children hostage in a studio in Mumbai, was shot by the police when the accused was about to aim the gun at one of the hostages. Rohit Arya had called everyone to the studio on Thursday (30 October 2025) on the pretext of audition for a web series. He had an air gun. Let us tell you that this operation in Powai lasted for about three hours.
Many praised Assistant Sub-Inspector Amol Waghmare, whose bravery and timely action saved the lives of the 10 to 12-year-old children, NDTV reported. He is being called the hero of Powai for risking his life to save the children.
How did this entire operation happen?
Powai police received information at 1.45 pm that a man had lured children to a studio and held them hostage. Rohit Arya was armed with an air gun, which could kill children if shot from close range. The accused had installed sensors on the windows of the studio so that anyone who tried to rescue them could be detected.
The police managed to enter the building through the back door. NDTV quoted sources as saying that after entering inside, he searched the entry gate and quietly reached the toilet attached to the studio. At the same time, Arya aimed at a hostage and tried to press the trigger, then Amol Waghmare opened fire on Arya to save the children. Arya became unconscious after being shot in the chest, however he later died.
Police tried to talk to Rohit Arya
Apart from the air gun, the police also recovered some chemicals from the studio, but did not give much information. All the hostages have been rescued safely. In a video released before the police action, Arya had explained her motive and claimed that instead of committing suicide, she planned to take the children hostage. Police said that they tried to negotiate with Rohit Arya, but when the conversation did not progress, the police decided to go inside.
