Modi government’s gift to farmers before Diwali, MSP increased on these six crops

Before Diwali, the Modi government has given a big gift to the farmers. The central government has decided to increase the MSP of Rabi crops on Wednesday (October 1, 2025). For this, the government has announced the release of Rs 84,263 crore. This package will be for 6 years. Apart from this, the central government has approved a package of Rs 11,440 crore to promote pulses crops.

Wheat MSP extended

The Union Cabinet has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by 6.59 per cent to Rs 2,585 per quintal for the 2026-27 session. For 2025-26, the MSP of wheat was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal. In this way, the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 160 per quintal this year.

Wheat is the main crop of the rabi session whose sowing starts from the end of October and begins to be harvested from March. Other rabi crops include jowar, barley, gram and lentils. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the MSP for Rabi session crops has been determined on the basis of the recommendations of the Agricultural Costs and Price Commission (CACP).

The government has set a target of producing 11.9 million tonnes of wheat for 2025-26 crop year (July-June). Its estimated production in 2024-25 was 11.75 million tonnes, which is a record so far. Apart from this, barley MSP has been increased to Rs 2150/quintal, gram 5875 rupees/quintal, mustard 6200/quintal.

Government’s focus on promoting pulses cultivation

The central government is focusing on promoting pulses-oil cultivation. For this, the government has announced a package of Rs 11,440 crore. This mission will last for 6 years, under which a target has been set to increase the yield of pulses to 350 lakh metric tonnes every year. Toor, urad and lentil dal will be procured 100 percent.

On the decisions of the cabinet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “A total of Rs 84263 crore will go to the hard work of our farmers brothers by increasing the MSP of the Rabi season. The estimated purchase during the Rabi season 2026-27 is likely to be 297 lakh metric tonnes and the amount to be paid to the farmers on the proposed MSP is Rs 84,263 crore.”
